Fall Tryouts For The 2011 Season On Saturday September 18th (AAA) and Saturday September 25th (AA) Saugus National Little League will be holding on–field tryouts at the Elks Field. Players who participated in AA or AAA during the 2010 season are expected to tryout. Players that are unable to tryout during these fall sessions will be expected to tryout at the winter tryout held indoors at Saugus High School in March. An exact date for the winter tryout has yet to be determined. Any player 10 or 11 years old must participate in either the Fall or Winter tryout in order to be considered eligible for Majors. Failure to participate in either of the two tryouts will result in that player being excluded from the Major League draft. All 12 year olds are required to play in Majors according to Little League International rules and therefore not required to tryout, however we strongly encouraged that they do so. Participating in these tryout sessions does not register a player for the 2011 season. Registration will be held in January 2011, any player that would like to participate in the 2011 Little League season will be expected to register at that time. Tryout sessions will consist of infield and outfield drills, batting, and running. Sessions will be held by team according to the schedule below. Players will be expected to participate for the entire session. Saturday September 18th
Saturday September 25th
Players should arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled session. All players must bring a glove and should be wearing cleats for the session. Players may bring their own bats and batting helmets, SNLL will provide bats and helmets for any players that do not have their own. If anyone has any questions regarding this tryout please contact the SNLL Player Agent, Eric McGrane, at 781-231-2984 or via email at etmcg@comcast.net. Although the 2010 season has just concluded, it is time for Saugus National Little League to move forward and start preparing for the 2011 season. One of the first orders of business is to select managers to fill openings in the Majors and to determine if existing Managers should return for another season. Currently we have three teams that need new Managers. Anyone interested in managing one of these teams must make their intentions known by sending email to Kevin Foley no later than Wednesday August 25th. Current managers also need to make their intentions known as well. They too should do so by sending email to Kevin Foley. Failure to officially state your desire to return will result in your team being assigned a new Manager. Lastly, it is not assumed that assistant coaches are automatically in the running for Manager of their current team. If you are an assistant on any of the teams with a current opening and you would like to Manage that team in the upcoming season you too must make your attentions explicitly known by sending email to Kevin Foley prior to August 25th. All managerial candidates, including returning Managers, will be interviewed on Saturday August 28th by a committee comprised of five SNLL Board Members and parents. The manager selection committee will also conduct interviews with any managers wishing to return for the 2011 season. After interviewing all candidates the committee will make recommendations to the full board at the September Board meeting on Sunday September 12th. The full board will vote in managers for the six Major League teams at that September board meeting. In the event that there is a tie, the President of the Board shall cast the deciding vote. Once the new Managers have been selected teams will be assigned at random by drawing the team names out of a hat, the only exception being in cases where a decision is made to elevate the current assistant coach to Manager. Why select new Managers at this time? Fall tryouts for Majors will be held on Saturday September 18th, and all Major League managers are expected to attend to evaluate all AAA players trying out. We need to have all Managers in place prior to those tryouts. If anyone has any questions or would like to talk about the Managerial openings, please feel free to call Kevin Foley at 781-941-2995, or Scott Billingsley at 781-558-1531.
